Holiday Taxis to drive out carbon - TTG - 29 Aug 2008
Transfer specialist Holiday Taxis claims it will be carbon neutral by the end of 2008.
The company will offset its own emissions from offices, and clients will be given the chance to offset emissions from their transfers.
The cost will vary according to the vehicle used for the transfer – which range from hybrid cars to helicopters – but will average 50p.
Chief executive Paul Stanyer said: "This project has taken almost 12 months, mostly taken up by a study into the carbon the business creates.
"By offering our customers the opportunity to offset their transfer-related carbon emissions at a very small cost, they are able to benefit from our service and at the same time contribute positively to the environment."
In a trial over the past month, Holiday Taxis said 40% of its direct customers took up the offer. The firm will now extend the scheme to bookings through agents and operators.
It will use the cash generated to purchase carbon credits from a range of projects that have been certified to offset at least the amount of emissions paid for. The first project being supported is a wind power scheme in China.
Holiday Taxis has appointed Nathalie Greeno as green officer to oversee the offset scheme. She will also be responsible for reducing the company's emissions through recycling and improving energy efficiency at its offices in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, and Hailsham, East Sussex.
